A podcast for people who love knitting, Dorset Buttons, creativity & Scotland, especially the Highlands & Islands.

Welcome to the 37th episode of my podcast – Rewind & Fast Forward.

Thank you for joining me once again and welcome if you are a first time listener.

Happy New Year!

New Year’s Day looking across the Sound of Sleat, Skye.Join me as I take a look back over the past few months, when I haven’t been podcasting, and fast forward, as I bring you up to date with TJFrog and plans for 2023.

The Weather

2022 was the year of Soggy Skye.  I chat about the cold and wet weather we’ve had on Skye this year in comparison to the dry and warm East coast.

The photos below were taken in June 2022.  We left a very wet, cold Skye (11 degrees Celsius) and arrived 2 hours later on a dry, sunny East coast at Inverness (22 degrees Celsius.)

Summer Skye 2022
Summer East coast 2022

I talk about the flora and fauna we’ve seen in the seasons, including birds, the behaviour of the deer in our garden, missing out on seeing orcas and a chance close encounter with an otter.

Creativity

I bring you up to date on my Neglected Projects (NPs) and how I got inspired to tackle and finish knitting the Belmont cardigan.

The Islay jacket was next on the list and has been on an adventure.  Listen in to find out why this 10 inches of cable sleeve is going to get frogged.  Can you spot the mistakes?

I’ve started making my second Love Note sweater and am working on the Debbie Abrahams Mystery Blanket 2017!

I did manage to finish 3 items this year, the Shetland Wool Week hat by Linda Shearer and 2 shawls which are on the Block Me Project Pile (BMPP)!

Dorset Buttons & wider news from the TJFrog pad

I discuss the year of teaching Dorset Button workshops in person and online and how covid prevented me from exhibiting at a couple of yarn festivals.  I love teaching and was very fortunate with all the classes I taught including a trip to teach at Shetland Wool Week.

The photo below is a display of some of the Dorset Buttons made by students on the Beaded Dorset Button Workshop.

I update you on the plans for TJFrog in 2023 which includes the current closure of the online shop which will reopen on Friday 27th January.

I talk through the current shows you will be able to find me at in 2023.  They are:

Yorkshire Yarn Fest 4th & 5th March at Sandburn Hall, York

Wonderwool Wales  22nd & 23rd April at Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells

Southern Wool Show 2nd & 3rd September at Newbury Race Course

The Skye Focus – the local lowdown

Proposals, elopements and weddings are very popular on Skye.  This is about a story of human kindness which happened to help out a couple who came to Skye to get married.  You can read all about it in this blog post by their wedding photographer, Rosie.

Across The Bridge

An interview with Dr Carly Fertleman who went on a creative sabbatical to India.  Throughout the trip Carly crafted within the themes of purple, spirals and prime numbers.   An exhibition of her work was held at her home and below are photos some of her work.

Carly created a blog about her creative journey called How Time Goes Faster As You Get Older

That’s it for this episode.

Thank you for joining me again.

Until next time . . .
