A podcast for people who love knitting, Dorset Buttons, creativity & Scotland, especially the Highlands & Islands.

Welcome to the 45th episode of my podcast – Summer Time

Hello and thank you for joining me and welcome if you are a first time listener.

Summer time means something different to all of us, and although we usually slow down a bit we’ve had a packed few weeks.

The Weather

I talk about our summer time weather, or very unseasonal weather, it’s all out of synch.

From a cold June photographing the Skye Half Marathon, summer snow, wedding weather, midges, spiders and juicing retreat weather.

Creativity

There’s an update on my sock knitting and I have 2 finished pieces of knitwear:

The first is the cardigan, Capri by Sarah Hatton, Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine No 43. using Rowan Calmer.

I chat about low knitting productivity  with juicing retreat and travels although I did make vision boards for my physical and mind health.

My second finished knit is for my TJFrog staff, the Shetland Wool Week Islesburgh Toorie by the Doulls family.  Now to knit one for me!

And I’ve cast on the Mrs Manson dress by Mandy Moore, Olach Designs and have switched to wooden needles to help achieve the right row gauge.

I’m looking forward to taking part in a workshop with Eve Eunson in Shetland on Fair Isle Knotted Basket weaving the technique used to make Fair Isle Strawback Chairs.  The latter of which are on the critically endangered list on the Heritage Craft Website.

Have you knitted an Emotional Support Chicken by Annette Corsino?  It’s one of my many future projects.

I recently did a Fusing glass workshop at Storr Glass Studios on the Trotternish Peninusula run by Roy and Jane.  If you’re on Patreon you will see me opening my pieces after they’ve been in the kiln.

Skye Focus – the local lowdown

What might impact summer tourism?

I chat about the current contentious issues of fish and wind farms on the Skye.  Will these be seen as an eyesore by tourists?

That’s it for this episode.

Thank you for joining me again.

Until next time . . .
