Over the past few months Skye Pie Cafe has appeared in my social media feeds a few times and left me wanting to share in the experience.  Opening for 4 days in December we fixed the date in the diary and popped along to sample the pies!

Glenview is home to rooms, a gallery and the Skye Pie Cafe.  From the moment we parked up outside, on what was a cold driech day, we felt we’d arrived at a welcoming haven.

The Christmas cheer and spirit embraced us on entry with staff dressed as elves and in various festive attire with the aroma of mulled wine and festive flavours wafting around.  We briefly popped into Glenview Gallery, a room with the most amazing selection of gifts and textiles.  The pie was calling so exploring the Gallery in more detail will have to wait for another day.

We were shown to a table for 2 in our own mini diner / lounge, and to top it all, a bowl of knitting waiting for me on the table!!!

This is the first time outside of Shetland I’ve seen this.  I was in my element.  I took up the knitting needles and carried on from where the last person left off.  I love this type of communal project looking at the garter stitch, the stocking stitch, the fair isle, and how the two coloured yarns had been used.  It left me wondering who had sat there before me and knitted all those stitches.

From our table we could see this stunning white pom pom display, in the dining area next door, looking like snow falling down as we watched the odd bit of sleet falling outside.

A simple yet effective idea.  Full of creativity, beautiful embroidery, textiles, and curiosities I could quite happily have stayed here all afternoon soaking up the inspirational surroundings.

In our mini dining room we had this wonderful Christmas tree all to ourselves decorated with discs of dried orange and strings of pop corn . . .

. . . and this beautiful selection of vintage T-cups hanging from the ceiling.

My flow of knitting got disturbed by the arrival of my Christmas Dinner Pie consisting of free range turkey, stuffing and cranberries, accompanied by potato wedges and Christmas roasted vegetables.  Delicious!

SPC6

Of course pudding had to follow – Orange and Cinnamon Frangipane Tart and a glass of mulled wine!

This is a unique place and so much more than a cafe.  A friendly, relaxing, inspiring, creative place to while away time eating great food.  Their passion shines through and we left knowing we will definitely be back to Glenview when they reopen in 2016!

Bye for now
